Kylian Mbappé could mime playing the flute if he scores against Senegal on Tuesday, France's World Cup opener at 21:00. He is known for his arms-crossed celebration, but this would be a surprise.

In a Carpool Karaoke segment for FOX Sports with James Corden, the France captain and Real Madrid forward said, “The first match against Senegal, if I score, I will do it, for you.”

The idea emerged as he discussed his childhood, saying his parents wanted him to try different things and that he studied the flute at a conservatoire for one or two years.

Handed a real instrument during the bit, he initially struggled to produce a note, laughing, “It has been a long time, I have lost it all”, before squeezing out a few sounds.

Whether he keeps the promise will be clear on Tuesday night. If he does find the net, he would draw level with Olivier Giroud as France's record scorer.
