Kylian Mbappé became the first France captain to score a World Cup brace as his side beat Senegal 3-1 in their opening match, a contest transformed by a far livelier final half-hour.
L'Équipe highlights several standout numbers from Tuesday night.
Ibrahim Mbaye, at 18 years and 143 days, is now the fourth-youngest scorer at a World Cup. Only Pelé of Brazil at 17 years and 239 days, Manuel Rosas of Mexico at 18 years and 93 days, and Gavi of Spain at 18 years and 110 days are ahead of the Parisian.
France have won each of their 7 tournament openers under Didier Deschamps in major finals, the World Cup and the Euro.
Mbappé is the first France captain to score at a World Cup since Zinédine Zidane did so against Italy on 9 July 2006, almost 20 years ago.
He has also scored his last 13 World Cup goals from the 60th minute onwards.
