Kylian Mbappe is set for major talks with France boss Didier Deschamps. They're potentially huge for Liverpool star Ibrahima Konate.
L'Equipe reports that Didier Deschamps is to sit down with Kylian Mbappe to talk about the French captaincy. Mbappe is currently holding the armband, but he's not actually appearing in squads.
The grand reason for that is a secret - no one is entirely sure what's happening with the forward, or why Deschamps isn't naming him. There are suggestions of personal issues and with that in mind, Mbappe may wish to step back from his role as France captain.
There is a list of potential replacements and Liverpool star Ibrahima Konate is near the top. Konate captained France at the weekend and wore the armband well.
The outlet reports that 'leadership qualities have grown on members of France’s backroom staff' recently. Konate's reputation is starting to soar - and he could well be rewarded with the armband.
However, there's one sticking point: Konate hasn't actually nailed down a starting spot. His form has him starting for France, and rightly so, but it's only recently that he's done that.
If Konate is to replace Mbappe going forward, he needs to prove that he's one of the first names on the teamsheet.
