The LA Galaxy had high hopes for this season. Entering the league's 30th regular season, the defending MLS champions looked to make another run for the title and qualify for the playoffs.
Instead, they opened up the season on a 16-game winless streak. Just before the half way point, the Los Angeles Galaxy ended the drought and finally beat an opponent.
On Saturday, the six-time MLS Cup winners beat Real Salt Lake by a score of 2-0. It was the most complete game of their season and reminded their fanbase that the LA Galaxy are winners.
Lucas Sanabria and Matheus Nascimento are just two of the many new faces to join the Los Angeles Galaxy this past winter. Zanka, Christian Ramirez, and Elijah Wynder are also in their first season with the team.
Sanabria scored in the 17th minute. A beautiful pass from Nascimento set up the goal nicely. That allowed the LA Galaxy to go into halftime with a 1-0 lead. In the past, the team has squandered leads before.
"Just proud of our guys for staying in it and competing to the end. Again, game after game showing up and putting it out there. So they deserve this. This is a hard-fought first win."Greg Vanney, Head Coach of the LA Galaxy
Instead, it was a pair of last year's newcomers who added the insurance goal. Gabriel Pec recorded the assist off of Joseph Paintsil's goal in the 55th minute.
Greg Vanney, the head coach of the LA Galaxy, has shown confidence in his team all season despite being on the wrong end of history. He took Sanabria out for Isaiah Parente just minutes into the second half.
Sanabria is under contract for the most years out of all the Galaxy players. He is signed through the 2029 MLS season. As for Nascimento, the Brazilian joined the team on a one year deal.
It would be wise to lock up the 18-year-old sensation to remain with the likes of Pec, Painstil and the injured Riqui Puig. Now that's a future that looks bright in any Galaxy.
