According to SPORT, it has been learned that RCD Mallorca are pushing hard to sign Barcelona’s rising star Jan Virgili on loan this summer.

The 19-year-old winger is seen as one of La Masia’s brightest talents, but with heavy competition in the first team, a temporary move away looks increasingly likely.

It is said that Mallorca’s sporting director has identified Virgili as the ideal addition to strengthen the team’s wings. The La Liga side is actively searching for players who can bring creativity and pace to wide areas, and Virgili fits the bill perfectly.

In fact, their coach, Jagoba Arrasate, is also playing his part. He has already contacted the youngster personally, outlining the role he would play if he joined the club, a tactic that proved successful with Pablo Torre earlier this summer.

Too much competition at Barcelona for Virgili

Despite his talent, Virgili has not been called up for Barcelona’s pre-season. The reason? A packed forward line. With the arrivals of Marcus Rashford and Roony Bardghji, there is simply no room for the young winger in Hansi Flick’s squad right now.

Barcelona’s reserve team plays in the Spanish fourth tier, and the club believes that Virgili needs top-level experience to continue developing.

For that reason, Barcelona are open to loaning him to a La Liga side. Both Mallorca and Girona have submitted loan offers, and Barça are carefully weighing their options.

Sporting director Deco is in no rush to close a deal, but one thing is clear that the club will not consider a permanent transfer. They want to keep full control of Virgili’s future.

If all goes to plan, the youngster could soon follow in Pablo Torre’s footsteps and join Mallorca, where regular top-flight minutes could be the key to unlocking his massive potential.
