Real Madrid’s game against Benfica midweek was headlined by the racist attack on Vinicius Jr. by Gianluca Prestianni – something the youngster still holds out that he did not engage in.

Yet, it is clear that the tensions are high and that footballing institutions across the globe are alert to this, especially given that the said incident occurred on the field of play by a direct opponent.

Later today, Los Blancos take to the field against Osasuna at Estadio El Sadar, a venue where there have historically been heated clashes and aggressive chants from the supporters.

As reported by Defensa Central, La Liga and Javier Tebas have taken special measures for the game later today and are set to increase the watch on the events.

Special protocol in place

La Liga have a standard protocol where two officials are stationed per match to monitor events in the stands and on the field both before and after games to ensure there is no breach of code or episode of racist or other form of abuse.

Keeping in mind the high-tension atmosphere expected in Pamplona later today, La Liga have doubled down and positioned two regular field directors in addition to the two usual officials for the same.

The officials will be in charge of monitoring what happens on the stands and on the field of play in addition to ensuring that regulatory orders are complied with before, during and after the game.

After the high-tension affair midweek in the UEFA Champions League, there is good reason for heightened security, especially with Vinicius Jr. at the centre of things.

From Real Madrid’s side, the club have taken their measures as well and have informed three players in particular to be cautious of the provocations from the crowd.
