La Liga president Javier Tebas has this week aimed a less-than-subtle dig at those in the boardroom at Real Madrid.
This comes in response to Los Blancos’ recent schedule change request.
For those who may have missed it, earlier this week, Real Madrid sent a formal letter to La Liga.
As much came to request for their opening league fixture of the coming season, scheduled for August 19th against Osasuna, to be pushed back to a later date.
The new date proposed was October 29th, with Osasuna understood to have been on board with the idea.
The efforts of those in the boardroom at the Santiago Bernabéu came with Real Madrid, at the time, having still been in the thick of their campaign at the Club World Cup.
Nevertheless, La Liga showed little hesitation in rejecting the proposal out of hand.
And as alluded to above, this weekend, as much has been followed up on by a staunch statement on the part of Javier Tebas.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, in quotes relaid by Mundo Deportivo, La Liga’s president explained:
“It’s a decision that doesn’t correspond to La Liga, but we’ve already made it clear that it shouldn’t be changed. PSG doesn’t change in France’s Ligue 1, nor does Chelsea in the English Premier League. Real Madrid wanted to have 21 days of preparation, but they’re going to have 20. I don’t think they’ll lose the match they’re going to have against Osasuna for one day.”
