LaLiga 2025/26’s ownership picture spans domestic businessmen, international groups and funds, with four clubs still member-owned. According to Superdeporte, boardrooms are far more international than a decade ago, though models vary widely.
Clear single owners include Valencia, Villarreal and Rayo Vallecano. Meriton Holdings, Peter Lim, bought 70.4% of Valencia in 2014 for under 100 million, Kiat Lim became president in March 2025. Villarreal has been Fernando Roig’s since 1997 for 72 million pesetas, around 432,000 euros, while Rayo’s Raúl Martín Presa took over in 2011 for a symbolic sum below 1,000 euros.
Investor-led deals dominate elsewhere. Atlético de Madrid said in November 2025 that Apollo Sports Capital would become majority shareholder once the deal closes, expected in the first quarter of 2026. Reuters put the valuation near 2.5 billion and a 55% stake around 1.425 billion, and Espanyol’s 2025 sale to Velocity Sports Partners was put at up to 200 million by Reuters, while El País reported 130 million for 99.65%.
City Football Group and Pere Guardiola share control at Girona, the fee was never officially detailed, reports place it around 7 million. Levante’s José Danvila consolidated close to 70% by October 2025 via loans, debt swaps and investment of about 35 million. Mallorca has been led by Andy Kohlberg’s US group since 2016, with 20.62 million invested in shares, according to The Guardian.
Four clubs remain member-owned, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Athletic Club and Osasuna, exempted in 1992 for sound finances. Elsewhere, leadership is dispersed at Betis, Sevilla and Real Sociedad.
