LaLiga could send 10 clubs to Europe next season

With 11 matchdays left, LaLiga’s race for Europe is reaching its crunch. In the most favourable case, up to 10 Spanish clubs could play in UEFA competitions next season.

According to Superdeporte, the key variable is a potential fifth Champions League berth, awarded for top collective performance across UEFA events. Spain are battling Germany for that extra slot.

Real Betis and RC Celta de Vigo remain in the UEFA Europa League and would reach the Champions League by winning it. If that coincided with the fifth berth, Spain could field six Champions League sides.

The Champions League places currently belong to FC Barcelona, Real Madrid CF, Atlético de Madrid and Villarreal CF. Betis could be the fifth via the extra berth, while Celta’s path depends on Betis winning and a top five finish.

The Copa del Rey also shapes the picture, with Real Sociedad chasing the title. Its winner qualifies for the Europa League, and if Atlético de Madrid lifted it, that place would pass to the league table.

In the UEFA Conference League, Rayo Vallecano are still alive. Lifting that trophy would also deliver a European spot for next term.

If those elements aligned, the allocation could stretch to 10th place. CA Osasuna, Valencia CF, Sevilla FC and Girona FC would then have a realistic target to chase.

UEFA rules this season no longer set a strict country cap, and Spain have at least seven berths guaranteed. With almost a third still to play, 10 clubs looks unlikely, but remains mathematically possible.
