Barcelona and Real Madrid did not let up in the title race, Barça beating Mallorca 3-0 and Madrid winning 2-0 at Valencia. Atlético slipped, a 0-1 home defeat to Betis checking their faint hopes as Betis cling to Europa League places.
AS points out how the top-flight table would look without VAR after matchday 23, with the technology pivotal in several fixtures. It was decisive at the Metropolitano, where a Diego Llorente own goal was ruled out for offside interference by Antoine Griezmann. It also intervened in Celta-Osasuna, where Munuera kept a penalty for the hosts after judging no foul on Rubén García, and in Real Sociedad-Elche, where a Marín goal was chalked off for offside.
In Real Sociedad 2-2 Espanyol (2-1), Remiro saved Puado’s penalty, but Aramburu encroached and cleared, so it was retaken and Puado scored. Athletic 1-0 Rayo (0-0) turned on a Gumbau foul on Sancet for a penalty. Sevilla 2-2 Elche (1-2) saw Peque’s goal given as onside.
Levante 2-2 Betis (2-3) had an Altimira goal cancelled for a foul by Junior on Iván Romero. Athletic 2-1 Mallorca (1-1) featured a penalty for Valjent’s foul on Iñaki, converted. Celta 1-2 Real Sociedad (1-1) saw an Oyarzabal strike ruled out for offside.
Girona 1-0 Alavés (1-1) had an Antonio Blanco goal disallowed for offside. Sevilla 1-0 Osasuna (0-0) hinged on a Moi Gómez foul on Juanlu, with Vargas scoring the penalty. Athletic 1-0 Oviedo (1-1) saw Colombatto’s effort chalked off for Ilyas offside.
