With the entire world watching the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026, Lamine Yamal knows the kind of pressure he is under. As the star forward in Spain’s team for this tournament, the young 18-year-old is carrying the hopes and dreams of his entire country and beyond on his shoulders.
Yet, despite that pressure, the youngster continues to deliver in the big moments and is still improving after every game. After all, he has managed to be named the Superior Player of the Match two times in a row in both of Spain’s knockout games against Austria and Belgium respectively.
However, Spain’s biggest challenge yet now awaits them in the semi-final stage against France. Led by the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Michael Olise, and Ousmane Dembele, this French side is truly a behemoth when it comes to being a competitor in this competition.
Despite that kind of challenge and all the pressure that comes along with it, Lamine Yamal still remains unfazed it seems. As quoted by Fabrizio Romano, the young Barcelona star even issued a bold warning towards the opposition ahead of the upcoming fixture:
“I think that if France has to fear anyone, it’s us…”
He further went on to explain that the reason for this was the fact that it was Spain who knocked out France in both of their last two knockout encounters. One of them being in the 2024 European Championship and the other being their subsequent Nations League clash:
“… As we’re the ones who have knocked them out before.”
Undoubtedly the biggest game of the tournament so far, the winner of this upcoming clash will be guaranteed a place in the final of the FIFA World Cup. On the other side, Argentina will be taking on Switzerland while England takes on Norway to decide which two teams will meet each other to fight for a place in the final as well.
