FC Barcelona secured a decisive victory in La Liga last night, beating Atletico Madrid 2-1. The result puts the Blaugranes seven points ahead of Real Madrid in the league table following the latter’s 2-1 loss to Mallorca.

While the result was crucial for the league standings, the manner in which it was achieved made it a memorable night for the Catalans.

The winning goal arrived in the dying minutes of the match. Robert Lewandowski converted a rebound after Musso saved a shot from Joao Cancelo, sending the Barça squad into celebration. Yet, one player stood out for his lack of visible joy.

Lamine Yamal, who was heavily involved in the game, barely celebrated Robert Lewandowski’s decisive goal and was seen leaving the pitch visibly frustrated. Images from DAZN showed him lamenting something as he crossed paths with Hansi Flick while making his way to the locker room.

He was accompanied by José Ramón de la Fuente, the goalkeeping coach, who also assists with strategy and set pieces.

After the game, Hansi Flick addressed the incident in his post match press conference:

“Lamine Yamal gave it his all: he dribbled, attacked, but didn’t score. He was a little upset because it was a very emotional game, but that’s normal. He’s now back in the locker room and is fine.”

However, according to Mundo Deportivo, another possible reason for Yamal’s frustration could be the volume of instructions and guidance he received from José Ramón de la Fuente during the match. The information overload may have contributed to his visible irritation at the final whistle.

Hopefully, the frustration was only because of high emotions after such a tense match, and the matter will settle down before Lamine Yamal and Barcelona once again face Atletico Madrid on Wednesday in the UEFA Champions League at Camp Nou.
