Late drama elsewhere delivered a crushing setback for Nottingham Forest and propelled Crystal Palace further clear, creating a double shift in Leeds United’s survival picture, yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk reports.

Leeds’ 1-1 draw at Aston Villa on Saturday, coupled with West Ham’s 0-0 against Bournemouth, maintained their cushion above the relegation zone.

That point moved United further clear of Forest before the Reds hosted Liverpool on Sunday. In Vitor Pereira’s first league game, a match of chances seemed destined to finish goalless until Alexis Mac Allister struck in the 97th minute to seal a 1-0 away win.

Moments earlier, an Ola Ania clearance had ricocheted in off Mac Allister, only for VAR to rule it out for handball. The late twist left Forest four behind Leeds and two ahead of West Ham.

Leeds had also closed to within a point of Crystal Palace before the Eagles’ trip to improving basement side Wolves. Evann Guessand struck in the 90th minute to clinch a 1-0 Palace win.

Palace rose to 13th, four clear of Leeds, who now have Brighton directly above them by three points.
