Calum McFarlane was taking his Chelsea press conference today looking ahead to tomorrow’s game against Tottenham, and the Chelsea boss had plenty to talk about in the wake of an FA Cup final defeat.
McFarlane had a few players who didn’t feature on the bench against Man City on Saturday, and he revealed today that one was due to injury, but two were simply technical decisions.
“Romeo took a slight knock in the build-up to the game, nothing major,” McFarlane explained.
“With Romeo, we don’t want to take that risk. We need to be careful. Benoit and Mamadou didn’t make the squad – we can use them in the next two games potentially. We have a lot of players in their position.”
The fact that two central defenders at a time are being left out of the squad shows what a glut we’ve got in that position following Levi Colwill’s return to fitness. It’s a sure sign that a couple of sales will be made in the summer.
Reece James has been trying to rally the troops after a disappointing result on Saturday.
Chelsea are considering signing Lewis Hall as a left back option this summer according to an exclusive from our writer Simon Phillips.
