Christopher Nkunku’s situation is a strange one right now.
He basically has never been in favour since Enzo Maresca took over, and played mainly in the Conference League last season. He struggled when given chances in Premier League games, and looked pretty resigned to the fact that he would be leaving this summer from somewhere around the turn of the year.
Florian Plettenberg’s Tweet about Christopher Nkunku’s future.
But against expectations he was included in the Club World Cup squad, and has played a good amount in the USA. And all the messaging we get from Maresca is that he still wants to count on the Frenchman.
We’re still convinced that Chelsea would like to sell him – the issue is that there hasn’t been so much interest yet. Bayern Munich are constantly named as a team that would be interested and could afford him, but there’s not much talk on that front right now.
That would be bad news for Blues fans who want more attackers signed – until Nkunku is on the way out, we don’t forsee another addition.
German insider Florian Plettenberg has just put out a Tweet discussing the German giants’ interest, and explaining that they’re just “monitoring” the attacker. “No offers,” the journalist insists.
Their “further efforts” will depend on “incoming and outgoing decisions”, meaning basically that they will have to sell some players before they get into gear and start bidding for Nkunku.
The serious injury to Jamal Musiala picked up at the Club World Cup, which will rule him out for the majority of the season to come, will certainly increase the German giants’ need for a new player, but nothing concrete has come of it yet.
