There’s more bad injury news for Chelsea, with three potential starters ruled out for Saturday’s game against Liverpool.

There were a few striking things about Chelsea’s team to face Nottingham Forest B on Monday – the start for academy teenager Jesse Derry chief among them.
But just as people were starting to praise interim manager Calum McFarlane, they noticed that neither Alejandro Garnacho nor Pedro Neto were in the team. They both had knocks, and haven’t yet improved:
“Neto and Garnacho are carrying knocks, so it is looking unlikely [they will face Liverpool],” the manager said in his presser today.
“Rob [Sanchez] is not going to be available.”
So that’s our first choice goalkeeper and two more wingers to add to the absentees.
Of course, Estevao and Jamie Gittens are already out, and Derry was injured horrifically at the end of the first half of the Forest game, ruling him out on Saturday too.
We wonder if McFarlane will dip into the academy for another youngster, or if he will be forced into some kind of formation change, with Liam Delap potentially leading the line alongside Joao Pedro?
Even in that case, we’re sure to see more academy action on the bench. There are simply no senior attackers left.
A major update from the boss made it clear that it was more than possible that two players will return, which is the good news.
After a game on Monday, it’s a short week to the match on Saturday – and McFarlane didn’t give out any days off this week.
