Lazio are moving towards a deal for Nordsjaelland teenager Noah Markmann, yet the hunt for a true Mario Gila replacement remains unresolved.

Alfredo Pedulla reports that the clubs are very close to an agreement for the 19-year-old, though Sergi Dominguez is expected to stay in the frame until any move is finalised.

Il Corriere dello Sport says Nordsjaelland want 87 million and Lazio have offered 85 million plus bonuses, so a compromise looks achievable. The paper also notes Markmann was left out of the latest matchday squad citing physical discomfort, which could mask a pending departure.

Lazio have sold Gila to AC Milan and had approved Alessio Romagnoli’s switch to Al-Sadd. The 32-year-old is no longer tipped to join the Qatari champions, yet a strained relationship with Claudio Lotito makes a return to the squad unlikely. Danilho Doekhi has arrived on a free from Union Berlin.

Even so, the unit still needs another option alongside Oliver Provstgaard, Samuel Gigot and Patric, with the latter two battling fitness issues. Il Corriere dello Sport argues neither Markmann nor Doekhi are genuine successors to Gila, described as one of Serie A’s finest. That leaves open whether Lazio will pursue a more accomplished defender if the Denmark U21 international joins.
