Maurizio Sarri has no doubts about the size of the task awaiting Lazio on Sunday night, describing Inter as one of the strongest sides not only in Italy but in all of Europe.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, via FCInterNews, Sarri admitted the gap between Inter and the rest of Serie A has widened, acknowledging the quality and depth of Cristian Chivu’s squad.

“It’s clear that Inter, along with Napoli, have the strongest squad in the league.

“They’ve reached two Champions League finals in the last three years, and even in Europe there are few teams stronger than them.

“It’s an extremely difficult game – the gap has grown in recent years.”

The Lazio coach also gave an update on Alessio Romagnoli, who remains doubtful for the trip to San Siro after suffering a muscle issue against Cagliari.

“Romagnoli trained fairly well today,” Sarri said.

“We’ll see how he feels tomorrow morning and then decide with the medical staff.”

Despite his caution, Sarri insisted Lazio will not go to Milan to defend:

“We know Inter are stronger, but we’ll still go there to get a result.

“We’ll need humility and 25 players willing to give everything for a performance worthy of the occasion.”

However, Sarri recognises that Inter, boasting the league’s most prolific attack, will provide the ultimate test of that defensive solidity.
