Lazio complete free transfer for Danilho Doekhi | OneFootball

Lazio have completed the free signing of Danilho Doekhi to strengthen Gennaro Gattuso’s defence.

The club said in a statement that the Dutch centre-back signed after passing his medical in Rome.

The 28-year-old arrived in the capital on Monday to finalise terms.

The Biancocelesti sought reinforcements after selling Mario Gila and Alessio Romagnoli. While talks continue with Dinamo Zagreb for 21-year-old Spaniard Sergi Dominguez, Doekhi was secured following swift negotiations.

Doekhi left Union Berlin at the end of June after four years, so Lazio only needed to agree personal terms and commissions.

Rotterdam-born Doekhi came through XerxesDZB between 2004 and 2006, then spent a decade at Excelsior Rotterdam before a 2016-2017 spell with Ajax. He stepped up to Vitesse’s first team in 2018, later earning a move to Union Berlin.

In Germany he established himself as a defensive mainstay and also contributed goals, scoring 16 over the past four years, six of them last season.
