Lazio’s hunt for a centre-forward has shifted focus, with Gennaro Gattuso identifying Milan striker Santiago Gimenez as his preferred option.
Il Messaggero reports the coach set out that preference within days of arriving at Formello, while John Kennedy remains in pole on the shortlist but talks with Fluminense have stalled and other alternatives have not convinced him.
Finances are the major obstacle. With Lazio required to keep a zero net spend, a loan from Milan is the only realistic route, and Gimenez’s €2.5 million net salary would still need to be addressed.
Milan are open to a departure, with Amorim building around club-record signing Gonçalo Ramos, but they would prefer a permanent sale to recoup the €30m-plus paid to sign Gimenez from Feyenoord.
That stance could soften as the window progresses, potentially creating space for a loan with an option, at which point Lazio could move decisively.
