Lazio’s New Attacking Midfielder: Gattuso & Fabiani Each Pushing for a Player

Lazio are expected to sign a new attacking midfielder, but Gennaro Gattuso and Angelo Fabiani each have their own preference for the role.

Lazio Need a New Attacking Midfielder

The Biancocelesti didn’t need attacking midfielders last season, given that Maurizio Sarri adopted a 4-3-3 formation. However, Gattuso is widely expected to implement a 4-2-3-1 system, prompting the need for a new No.10.

Gennaro Gattuso Wants Luka Stojkovic

According to Il Messaggero, new head coach Gattuso is a keen admirer of Luka Stojkovic, a 22-year-old Croatian who had a sensational campaign at Dinamo Zagreb, contributing with 13 goals and 12 assists in 41 appearances across all competitions, helping the club win the domestic double. The Calabrian manager is familiar with Croatian football, having spent the 2024/25 campaign at Hajduk Split.

Angelo Fabiani Close to Landing Jonthan Asp Jensen

On the other hand, Lazio sporting director Fabiani has already struck an agreement with the entourage of Jonathan Asp Jensen, a 20-year-old midfielder owned by Bayern Munich. The Dane is ready to join the Biancocelesti following his impressive loan spell at Swiss top-flight club Grasshoppers, but the Italian capital side must strike a deal with the Bavarian giants.

Lazio are expected to spend €4 million on the Danish talent, but Bayern are pushing for a large sell-on fee, potentially reaching 50%, while the Aquile are only willing to leave out a lower percentage.

Lazio’s Internal Options

Lazio haven’t had a natural attacking midfielder since parting ways with Luis Alberto in the summer of 2024. During Marco Baroni’s reign, Boulaye Dia played as a second striker behind Taty Castellanos. The Senegalese performed better in this supporting role than as a centre-forward, so he could be an option.

Tijjani Noslin and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru can also fill in the hole, but the acquisition of a natural attacking midfielder should be a priority.
