Lazio’s Serie A path to Europe shut by Inter loss and AC Milan defeat | OneFootball

Lazio can no longer qualify for Europe through Serie A after Matchday 36 left them seven points adrift of seventh with two games remaining. According to The Laziali, only a win in Wednesday’s Coppa Italia final would now secure continental football.

On Saturday the Aquile lost 0-3 at home to Inter, then on Sunday evening Atalanta held on to beat AC Milan at San Siro.

Those results ended a late push that had lifted them to eighth and trimmed the deficit to four points after Matchday 35.

With two rounds left, it is mathematically impossible for Lazio to catch Atalanta in seventh.

The cup final against Inter now carries added weight, offering silverware and Europa League qualification if they win.

If they fall short, Europa League places will go to the teams in fifth and sixth, with seventh-placed Atalanta entering the Conference League.

If Lazio triumph, seventh would not yield European football, Lazio would join the fifth-placed side in the Europa League and sixth would drop to the Conference League.
