Leeds United were left surprised by Celtic’s approach over a loan for Joel Piroe, according to Sky Sports.
Celtic have endured a challenging 2025-26 campaign, as they sit second in the Scottish Premiership table, with six points behind leaders Hearts.
They are looking to strengthen their attack in the ongoing window in a bid to make a big comeback during the second-half of the season.
The Hoops made enquiries to sign Leeds striker Piroe on a loan deal, despite knowing the club’s chairman Paraag Marathe is also the vice chair of their bitter rivals Rangers.
The Whites dismissed their approach, with the idea of helping to boost the chances of Celtic winning the Scottish Premiership title laughable to them.
Piroe was one of the standout performers for Leeds last season. He scored 19 goals in 46 Championship appearances, helping his team secure Premier League promotion.
But his fortunes have declined this campaign, as he has been struggling for first-team opportunities in West Yorkshire.
The centre-forward has started just two top-flight matches, which becomes only 203 minutes on the pitch.
His situation suggested he could look for a move out of Elland Road this January.
But Leeds maintain that Piroe wants to stay at the club and prove himself in the Premier League.
Sources close to the player have also reiterated that stance, despite interest from clubs in the Championship and in Europe.
Leeds endured a difficult November when they lost four successive top-flight matches to drop into the relegation zone.
But Daniel Farke has inspired a huge comeback, as his team went on a seven-game unbeaten run.
Their momentum was briefly halted at Newcastle United, but they bounced back with a 1-0 home victory against Fulham last weekend.
Leeds currently sit 16th in the league table, with eight points above the drop zone.
