Leeds United are pushing to sign Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff.
According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, the Whites have launched an offer worth £10 million plus £2m in add-ons for the 27-year-old.
This is reportedly their third bid for the English footballer, and the figure is close to the limit of how far they are willing to go.
The Yorkshire outfit could turn to alternative targets if a move for Longstaff doesn’t materialise.
Leeds have already agreed personal terms with the midfielder, who has one year remaining on his contract at St James’ Park.
Longstaff has been at Newcastle for the last 19 years.
He has made 214 appearances across all competitions for the Magpies, bagging 16 goals and 11 assists.
The academy graduate was part of Eddie Howe’s squad that lifted the Carabao Cup last season, featuring in five matches in the tournament.
However, first-team opportunities were generally limited for Longstaff, who started only eight games in the Premier League last term.
He is now ready for a new challenge and has agreed personal terms with Leeds.
But he also wants to secure a transfer fee for his boyhood club rather than leave as a free agent next summer.
Leeds have bolstered their attack by bringing in Luksa Nmecha, while they have also completed moves for defenders Jaka Bijol and Sebastiaan Bornauw.
