Leeds-supporting Norway Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store said in an Instagram post that pride was bigger than ever after his country’s World Cup quarter-final defeat to England.
England, managed by Thomas Tuchel, won 2-1 after extra time in Miami on Saturday evening, Jude Bellingham scoring twice to send the Three Lions into the semi-finals.
Store, like many Leeds and Norway fans, had been quietly confident before kick-off. Leeds enjoy a large following in Norway and across Scandinavia dating back to Don Revie’s glory years, and he counts himself among the Whites.
He thanked the nation and the team, noting the journey was over but that pride had only grown. He hailed a brave side that made almost anything seem possible, delivering unforgettable moments, world-class play and a unifying sense of community.
The message struck a proud tone after a narrow exit for Norway and a frustrating night for many Leeds supporters.
