Leeds United legend Jon Newsome believes the frustration is that the Whites should be able to walk the Championship this season given the quality they have.

On Sunday, Leeds went top of the Championship table by picking up all three points from a visit to Swansea City.

The Yorkshire outfit managed to seal a 4-3 win with an injury time winner from substitute Willy Gnonto in south Wales.

However, Newsome thinks that there are certain parts in Leeds’ game that they men need to work on and believes people believe that with the quality of the squad they should walk away with the league title.

He stressed that Leeds could be running the Championship this season if they can improve and hopes that in the coming days they can justify their quality with their performances.

“There are bits we need to get better at. I am not one to get carried away”, Newsome told BBC Radio Leeds.

“I am a bit of a realist; great result today, fabulous 4-3 victory, really good three points for us, but we can be better and if they improve on certain aspects, they could run the league.

“That is the frustrating bit; a lot of people know, you speak to anybody in the game, everybody says what a squad they have got, Leeds.

“They have an abundance of good-quality players. They should walk it this season.

“Well talk is cheap; actions speak louder than words.

“Today they have shown why people think that about them and I believe they could and should be doing that.

“I hope over the next three, four, five months we will see them do what we anticipate and believe they can do.”

Leeds will welcome Luton Town to Elland Road on Wednesday and it remains to be seen whether they will be able to register three wins in a row to keep themselves top of the table.
