Leeds United beat Crystal Palace 4-1 as Dominic Calvert-Lewin extended his scoring streak to five Premier League games, the club’s first such run since Mark Viduka in 2003. Ethan Ampadu also netted his first Premier League goal, and the result leaves Leeds six points clear of the relegation zone before Christmas.
Calvert-Lewin struck twice, his second arriving after Jaka Bijol’s deft flick from a long throw, with long throws leading to two first-half goals. Leeds Live notes that the result underscores a sharp turnaround under Daniel Farke, whose job was in severe jeopardy three weeks ago.
Ampadu later prodded in after Brenden Aaronson headed the ball back in and Bijol’s heel helped it on.
Late on, Palace pulled one back when James Devanny converted from the spot after Lucas Perri’s foul, then the forward headed against the post moments later.
In added time, substitute Ilia Gruev won a free-kick that Anton Stach curled home superbly to cap the scoring.
Player ratings reflected the dominance, with Ampadu and Calvert-Lewin scoring 9. A raft of 8s went to Jayden Bogle, Joe Rodon, Jaka Bijol, Pascal Strujik, Gabriel Gudmundsson, Anton Stach and Brenden Aaronson, while Lucas Perri earned 7 and Noah Okafor and Wilfried Gnonto received 6.
