Leeds United’s relegation picture relative to Newcastle United and Sunderland has shifted after Eddie Howe’s exit, with bookmakers adjusting prices for the coming Premier League season.
David Ornstein reported on Thursday morning that Howe was set to leave Newcastle after seven years in charge, and Sky Sports later announced his departure. The 48-year-old had been in post since November 2021.
The club have reportedly lined up 38-year-old Matthias Jaissle of Al Ahli as his replacement.
Newcastle finished last season in 12th, two points and two places above newly-promoted Leeds, who secured a 14th-placed return to the top flight.
Bookmakers have begun moving next season’s relegation odds, with a notable Sunderland call also cited. At general prices across the market, Arsenal are 1000-1, Liverpool 750-1, Manchester United 500-1, Chelsea 125-1, Aston Villa 66-1 and Tottenham Hotspur 50-1 to go down, reflecting a predicted table based on those odds.
