Leeds United have praised former promotion winner Josuha Guilavogui after he announced his retirement from professional football.
The France-capped midfielder joined in October 2024 as a free agent to bolster midfield depth during the club’s promotion push, making 18 appearances. He featured 16 times in the Championship as a substitute and started FA Cup ties against Harrogate Town and Millwall. The player said in a post that he was hanging up his boots.
Guilavogui was credited with a significant impact off the pitch, and on leaving at the end of the season he received warm messages from team-mates.
One year on from that departure, the 35-year-old’s farewell note reflected that football might forget him, but he would not forget it. He expressed gratitude, declared it was time to hang up his boots, and thanked the game.
Leeds marked the news by sharing a photograph of him kissing the Championship trophy, sending congratulations on a fine career and wishing him a happy retirement.
