Leeds United look set to host RB Leipzig at Elland Road this summer after Manchester United’s planned pre-season game with the Bundesliga club will not take place this summer.
According to Leeds Live, Leipzig will still travel to England to face Leeds, with the change coming after a friendly negotiated as part of the deal to sign Benjamin Sesko was dropped.
The Elland Road fixture is planned for the weekend commencing eight August, once Leeds return from the United States and Leipzig from Austria. It falls just days before Leeds fly to Ireland to meet Manchester United at Croke Park.
Red Bull bought a minority stake in Leeds and became front-of-shirt sponsor ahead of the 2024-25 season, when the Whites won the Championship title. The company are believed to hold around 10% of the ownership, with that equity reduced as part of the shirt deal.
Relations between the clubs have improved since November 2022, when the Court of Arbitration for Sport dismissed an appeal and ordered Leeds to pay RB Leipzig £18.4 million for Jean-Kevin Augustin. The ownership link has further eased tensions, reflected by this proposed friendly.
The game would follow a United States tour featuring matches against Wrexham in Tampa, Sunderland in New Jersey, and Liverpool at Soldier Field.
