Leeds United are weighing up legal action against Leicester City after a surprise Premier League damages ruling involving Everton and Burnley.

According to The Times, the club are considering legal routes that could see them pursue the Foxes over their PSR case.

Leicester finished top of the Championship under Enzo Maresca, with Leeds missing automatic promotion despite 90 points and finishing behind them and Ipswich Town. They then lost the play-off final to Southampton.

In February, Leicester were docked six points by the EFL after being found guilty of PSR breaches in the three years up to 2023/24. The deduction ultimately contributed to their relegation to League One.

Elland Road chiefs settled out of court with Everton last year after finishing a place below them in 2021/22, while Burnley, relegated that season, continued to pursue damages. Last week a Premier League commission ruled the breach materially harmed Burnley’s survival bid and ordered Everton to pay over £35m, a decision Everton criticised as setting a dangerous and unworkable precedent.

Leeds have since reviewed whether compensation is due and could take Leicester to court. Any case before the Premier League’s independent commission would need to show, on the balance of probabilities, that Leicester’s breach affected Leeds’ promotion hopes. Leicester finished seven points ahead of Daniel Farke’s team but lost both league meetings that season.
