Leeds United ‘to pay’ £5m add-ons for James Trafford after £40m fee | OneFootball

Leeds United are set to sign Manchester City and England goalkeeper James Trafford for a club record £40m, with further payments anticipated.

The Mail reports that add-ons are worth a further £5m, with a sell-on clause also included.

Leeds need reinforcements in goal after Karl Darlow and Illan Meslier left on free transfers, Darlow joining Manchester United and Meslier now at Arsenal.

Lucas Perri and Alex Cairns are the remaining options, but Perri has agreed an initial loan move to Torino and Cairns is viewed as third choice.

The £40m outlay would eclipse Leeds’ previous transfer record, the £35.5m paid for Georginio Rutter in January 2023.

It would also make Trafford the most expensive English goalkeeper, surpassing Jordan Pickford’s nine-year-old mark. Raphinha’s £55m switch to Barcelona remains Leeds’ biggest sale, ahead of Kalvin Phillips’ 2022 move to Manchester City for an initial £42m plus £3m in add-ons.
