Leeds United travel to Old Trafford tonight, desperately searching for a result to aid their survival bid.
The Whites have found goals hard to come by recently, but remain difficult to break down. They have failed to score in four consecutive league matches for the first time since 1982. Despite this, Daniel Farke’s side has conceded only twice during that scoreless period. They currently sit 15th, just three points clear of the Premier League relegation zone.
Leeds have shown incredible resilience on the road, drawing seven of their last eight away games. Another draw would mark their fifth consecutive away stalemate in the Premier League. However, they have not won a league game at Old Trafford in 18 attempts. Ending that long winless run would provide a massive boost to their survival hopes.
Daniel Farke faces a defensive reshuffle following the FA Cup victory over West Ham. Joe Rodon and Anton Stach are both definitely ruled out with ankle injuries. Former United winger Daniel James will also miss the reunion due to a muscle problem. These absences leave Farke with limited options in key areas of the pitch.
There is better news regarding the fitness of Jaka Bijol and Noah Okafor. Both players have used the weekend to recover and are expected to feature. Gabi Gudmundsson is also in contention after making progress with the medical staff. Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be tasked with providing the goal threat for the visitors.
Calvert-Lewin has been one of the league’s busiest players in terms of off-ball movement. He has made 282 runs behind the opposition defence so far this season. This accounts for more than half of his total attacking runs in the competition. Leeds will rely on his work rate to exploit any gaps in United’s defence. The Whites must rediscover their clinical edge to secure a famous result today.
Leeds United Predicted XI (3-4-3): Darlow; Bornauw, Struijk, Bijol; Bogle, Aaronson, Ampadu, Tanaka, Justin; Nmecha, Calvert-Lewin
The Premier League fixture at Old Trafford officially begins today at 20:00 BST.
The match is broadcast live in the UK on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League.
