Leeds United are reshaping their strongest XI and bench after a flurry of early-summer changes, with departures, an incoming winger and uncertainty in goal.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, six weeks on from sealing Premier League safety with three games to spare, Leeds ended 2025-26 with a 3-1 loss at West Ham. West Ham now drop to the Championship as Leeds ready for year two back at this level.

On 10 June the retained list confirmed Illan Meslier would leave when his contract expired this summer, and Facundo Buonanotte would return to Brighton. There were discussions with Karl Darlow, Alex Cairns and Sam Byram, although all are technically free agents.

A major exit followed as Pascal Struijk joined Brighton for £20m. Leeds then closed in on Harry Wilson as a free signing from Fulham, and the move is done, albeit still to be announced.

With Karl Darlow out of contract and in talks, Lucas Perri has to be considered number one for now. Jayden Bogle is clear first-choice right-back, with James Justin a versatile alternative.

In the seemingly preferred 5-3-2, Joe Rodon is a lock. Jaka Bijol impressed in the second half of last season and looks suited to the middle of a back three. Struijk’s departure likely brings Justin into the XI.

On the left, Gabi Gudmundsson is first choice. The Swede is also one of four Leeds players at the World Cup.
