Leeds must be prudent in January, with PSR pressure after roughly £100m was spent in the summer, and a move for Haji Wright now looks off.
The Telegraph reports that Coventry quoted £200m when West Ham enquired about Wright, whom Leeds have monitored, as the east London club search for a striker.
Such a fee would make the United States forward joint most expensive in history, level with Neymar’s £200m transfer from Barcelona to PSG in August 2017.
Leeds were not the club who asked, yet Coventry appear intent on keeping Wright, so a similar response would likely greet any approach.
Frank Lampard currently has Coventry six points clear at the top of the Championship, which suggests the leaders are reluctant to weaken themselves.
Leeds may instead target lower cost opportunities, such as a potential £9m deal for Ruben Vargas.
