Leeds’ interest in Ladislav Krejci reflects a club thinking beyond immediate concerns after staying up in their first season back in the Premier League. They do not need to make a major centre-back purchase, yet their readiness to do so is telling.
The pursuit did not begin this summer. TeamTalk reports that interest dates back to January and has endured across multiple windows.
Krejci is on loan from Girona. His appearances are thought to have activated clauses expected to make the switch permanent, so any buyer would effectively be taking him from Wolves.
He offers a profile Leeds struggle to source, blending leadership, experience and tactical flexibility. The 27-year-old captains the Czech Republic and previously led Sparta Prague during a successful spell. A left-footed centre-back, he is at home in both back four and back three setups.
His first season in England suggested he can handle the division. Across 27 appearances and 2,295 minutes, he delivered 104 clearances, 32 interceptions and 66 aerial duels won.
Debate around Joe Rodon, Pascal Struijk and Jaka Bijol need not be about superiority. Leeds already have three established Premier League centre-backs. Krejci would add a leadership profile, left-footed balance and experience across multiple systems.
A £26m outlay would place Krejci behind only Georginio Rutter and Rodrigo in the club’s spending history, pointing to recruitment with a longer horizon. Leeds may yet decide against the deal, but their stance suggests long-term planning rather than a short-term fix.
