Legendary former Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti has “left intensive care” and will “be back home soon”, his wife Milly Moratti confirmed.

Doctors initially placed Moratti on mechanical ventilation but fortunately came off it three days later.

Reports earlier today claimed the ex-Inter president had woken up from an induced coma and was improving in condition.

The Italian businessman served the Nerazzurri loyally between 1995 and 2016.

Moratti’s wife reassured those who have been eagerly awaiting good news, “Don’t worry we have so much to do.”

Moratti took over from Ernesto Pellegrini as Inter Milan president in 1995, in the midst of an underwhelming era for the Nerazzurri.

During his time at the club however, the Italian oversaw a period of intense change and the arrival of some of football’s biggest stars.

The likes of Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos and Zlatan Ibrahimovic would all play in blue and black during Moratti’s tenure.

Most famously, it was Moratti’s reign that allowed the club to win the historic treble in the 2009-10 season. Jose Mourinho’s side lifting the Scudetto, Coppa Italia and the Champions League.

In 2013, Erick Thohir took over as president after International Sports Capital acquired a majority 70% stake.

Moratti remained at the club in an honorary role until 2016. At this point, he sold the remainder of his stake and officially left the Nerazzurri.

Moratti’s wife Milly has continued to serve in the advisory board at the club. Additionally, various other members of the Moratti family remain associated with Inter to this day.
