The Foxes have shortlisted former Southampton boss Martin, Sheffield Wednesday head coach Danny Rohl, and Lee Carsley among others as they look for potential candidates to replace Ruud van Nistelrooy at the end of the season, as per Sky Sports.

However, Scottish giants Rangers FC are seemingly on the hunt to find a replacement for interim head coach Barry Ferguson ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, and reports from The Sun suggest that 39-year-old Martin was also on their radar.

Martin won promotion from the second tier with the Saints in 2024, and even though he was sacked just a few months into his maiden Premier League campaign, he could prove to be a shrewd appointment for Leicester this summer.

Therefore, a fresh report stating that Rangers' shortlist is now down to two different candidates, as per TEAMtalk, has handed the Foxes a potential boost.

Rangers eye Marco Rose and Steven Gerrard in boost to Leicester City's Russell Martin chances

The report reveals that former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard and German coach Marco Rose, who was sacked by RB Leipzig in March, are under consideration at Ibrox, which could allow Leicester to take pole position in the race for Martin if they decide to make him their top target.

Gerrard lifted the Scottish title with Rangers in 2021, and considering that the club has not won the league since he left to join Aston Villa later that year, it would be no surprise to see him return to get his managerial career back on track following a spell in Saudi Arabia.

Rose has been in the hot-seat at several reputable clubs so far during his career, including Borussia Dortmund and RB Salzburg, and given that he has worked with the Red Bull Group, who have close ties with pending new Rangers owners, The 49ers, he is also a strong contender to be appointed by the Glasgow outfit.

Rangers have been unable to keep up with rivals Celtic in the Scottish title race this season, which, despite respectable performances in the Europa League, resulted in Philippe Clement losing his job.

Martin may have implemented a brand of football that would improve their results against domestic opponents they are expected to beat, but he lacks experience on the European stage, so it is perhaps no surprise the club will seemingly opt for Gerrard or Rose instead.

Leicester City could benefit from Rangers managerial decision

If Leicester decide to take advantage of Rangers' decision and appoint Martin, they could benefit from having a man who knows how to win promotion from the Championship in charge next season.

Of course, Martin's results in the Premier League this term were hugely underwhelming, but Southampton's performances since his departure could suggest that he did well to get that squad of players into the top flight in the first place.

There is no doubt, also, that his brand of football is better suited to sides that are expected to be in the ascendancy during the majority of their games, which Leicester certainly will be next term, so making a move for Martin could be a wise choice for the Foxes this summer.
