The East Midlands outfit were resoundingly relegated on their return to the top-flight, taking just 25 points from their 38 league games under a combination of Steve Cooper and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Proving an unpopular choice due to his previous connections with Nottingham Forest, Welshman Cooper departed the club after just 12 games, with Leicester at the time sitting two points above the relegation zone.

But the appointment of former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy condemned Leicester back to the Championship, with the Dutch icon winning just five of his 27 top-flight matches in charge, tasting 18 defeats.

Now attention turns to how they will attack the Championship, with the Foxes still contemplating a change of manager, while the club face an impending 12-point deduction for breaking PSR rules, which is expected to be in force at the start of the next campaign.

It slims Leicester’s chances of achieving automatic promotion back to the promised land, with a lot of clarity needed heading into the new season.

With this in mind, Football League World rounds-up the latest news surrounding Leicester City’s potential search for a new boss.

Ruud van Nistelrooy still yet to talk with Leicester City over future

As per Sky Sports journalist Rob Dorsett, Ruud van Nistelrooy is still yet to discuss his future with the Leicester City board after the Premier League season concluded.

Dorsett claims the 48-year-old is now spending time with his family back home in the Netherlands, with it remaining unclear whether he will be in charge at the King Power Stadium in the Championship.

The tweet claims the Manchester United legend is still expected to depart the East Midlands, but the club have not begun negotiations with any other candidates ahead of a potential switch.

It appears puzzling Leicester are still waiting to sort out the manager's situation given their relegation back down to the Championship was confirmed at the end of April, so the club must still be giving quite a lot of thought to the Dutchman’s future in the dugout.

Russell Martin unlikely to become next Leicester City manager

Adding to his previous tweet about Ruud van Nistelrooy, Sky Sports’ Rob Dorsett also confirmed a move for Russell Martin was unlikely, despite speculation building that the former Southampton boss was going to make a return to the Championship.

Football Insider had claimed Martin was in advanced talks with Leicester about taking over at the King Power Stadium, but now discussions appear to have cooled, and the Foxes are considering other targets.

It will be a blow to Leicester given Martin’s instant ability to deliver promotion at Southampton, with the Foxes now looking to appoint a manager who has similar experience in that department.

Liam Rosenior considered for the Leicester City post

Building on the Russell Martin news, Rob Dorsett also revealed other candidates Leicester City had in mind for the job, with former Hull City manager Liam Rosenior on the shortlist.

Dorsett confirmed both Rosenior and Sheffield Wednesday’s Danny Rohl were under consideration, with the former enduring a successful start to his stint in France with Strasbourg.

The former Hull defender narrowly missed out on the play-offs when managing the Tigers during the 2023-24 campaign, and was surprisingly relieved of his duties following the disappointment.

He since made the step to managing overseas, helping Strasbourg qualify for the UEFA Conference League, and after signing a new contract with the French outfit at the end of April, appears to be very happy with where he is.

Having the opportunity to manage in a European competition for the first time, it will prove difficult to prize Rosenior away from his current role, who has built up an excellent early rapport at the Stade de la Meinau.
