Jannik Vestergaard’s 90th-minute finish salvaged Leicester City a draw at Wrexham, on their first visit to the Racecourse Ground in 44 years.
LeicesterMercury.co.uk reports that, despite the late rescue, worries persist after another flat display. City have now conceded in 22 straight Championship matches, and Jordan James departed before half-time with what looked like a hamstring problem.
Cifuentes shuffled his defence, Choudhury in for Ricardo, Vestergaard restored, and Ben Nelson starting at left-back for the first time this season. Driving rain and swirling wind made for a drab first half.
Before half-time, Stephy Mavididi’s cross reached Ayew, his touch fell to Bobby De Cordova-Reid whose close-range effort was saved by Arthur Okonkwo, then Jakub Stolarczyk denied Max Cleworth.
After the interval the tempo rose. Just past the hour, Ricardo was caught behind Liberato Cacace, Kieffer Moore escaped Vestergaard, Stolarczyk saved, and Lewis O’Brien slammed in the rebound.
City did not muster another effort until the 90th minute, when Jordan Ayew’s free-kick was flicked on by Caleb Okoli and Vestergaard controlled and thumped in to avoid a first ever league loss to Wrexham. In the ratings, James, De Cordova-Reid, Abdul Fatawu, Ayew and Ricardo scored 4 out of 10, while Stolarczyk and Vestergaard were given 6 and Oliver Skipp impressed before the break.
