Leicester City rebuild, expiring deals and James McCarron in focus as League One looms

Leicester City face a major reset as League One looms. It would be a surprise if any out-of-contract players receive new terms. Relegation clauses will trim salaries, yet the wage bill still needs to come down.

According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, Ricardo Pereira is confirmed to leave. Jordan Ayew and Patson Daka will also depart, while Jamaal Lascelles and Asmir Begovic are likely to follow.

Winger Silko Thomas is one to watch. He is out of contract and cheaper to retain, but after a limited impact late in the season, a parting of ways is possible.

City may have to sell many of those who attract interest, with rivals sensing bargains. Others may draw little attention, notably Jannik Vestergaard and Bobby De Cordova-Reid, who both have one year left. Vestergaard turns 34 before the season, and De Cordova-Reid is 33.

The next manager will be the first major call involving new sporting director James McCarron. At Lommel he hired English coaches Steve Bould and Lee Johnson despite their lack of Belgian experience.

That could mean he leans on what he knows, or is comfortable appointing someone new to the league or country. City were recently linked with Dick Schreuder of NEC Nijmegen, whose time in England was a brief Stoke stint in the late 1990s.

Academy products Sammy Braybrooke, Will Alves and Jake Evans are expected to be in the senior squad and could push to start. The club and any new manager must keep open minds on all contracted players to limit signings.
