Leicester City have been linked with Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana as they chase a January centre-forward, but any fee could prove prohibitive.

Evening Standard reports that City are among the clubs assessing Fofana as Chelsea prepare to sell. It is not the first link, with interest mooted in summer 2024 after Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s move to Stamford Bridge.

The 23-year-old has been recalled from his loan at Fatih Karagumruk in Türkiye. He scored eight in 15 across competitions despite the club sitting bottom of the Super Lig.

This season City have not paid transfer fees for arrivals, focusing on free agents and loans. There are suggestions Chelsea will try to recoup much of the £10m they paid Molde, a level likely to put City out of the running.

City are short of goals, with Jordan Ayew and Patson Daka managing just four non-penalty strikes between them in the Championship this season. The club also cut ties with Julian Carranza after a goalless spell for the Feyenoord loanee.

A move for free agent Michail Antonio collapsed when he sustained an injury in training at Seagrave. City have also been linked with Ibrahim Diabate, although coach Cifuentes has hinted at doubts over the 26-year-old’s immediate impact.
