The 15-year-old is one of the most exciting talents to come through the Foxes academy, and he has incredibly already made five Premier League appearances.

Given his age, Leicester are unable to agree a professional contract with Monga, which has left them vulnerable to losing the teenager, and it has been claimed that Man City, Chelsea and Real Madrid are among the clubs tracking him.

Leicester City confident Jeremy Monga will stay at the King Power Stadium

However, speaking to The Athletic after Leicester’s 2-2 draw at Nottingham Forest, van Nistelrooy revealed that the club are making progress as they look to reach an agreement with Monga that will see him stay in the east Midlands before signing a pro deal when he turns 17.

We want a future with him and hoping we can announce a contract with him soon. If he can stay and this is his future, and he can make minutes and build him into his pathway.

I have had many conversations with him and his family and hopefully he can sign soon. But it is up to him. It is a joy to work with him. We sometimes talk about his GCSEs and mathematics, and I have to help him with that also, but then we talk about football also. He nearly scored a winner here also. That would have been a fairytale.”

Leicester City is the best place for Jeremy Monga’s development

This has been a miserable season for Leicester, and questions will be asked by the fans as to how the club are in this position.

But, one of the few positives has been the emergence of Monga, who looks like a real talent.

It’s incredible to think that he is playing Premier League football at 15, and, as he proved at the City Ground, he is offering a lot to the team with how he plays, as he nearly scored the winner against Forest.

Of course, you can’t get carried away, and there needs to be patience with Monga, but Leicester’s use of him in recent weeks shows they’re giving him a pathway to the first-team.

It’s hard to imagine he will be near the first-team at any of the clubs mentioned, so staying at Leicester instead of playing youth team football seems a sensible choice. Plus, with relegation, there’s a realistic chance Monga could get plenty of starts next season.

So, this would be a real boost for Leicester, and it would offer a bit of optimism going into next season, as Monga really does have enormous potential.
