According to Coluna Do Fla, Flamengo dismissed head coach Filipe Luís on Tuesday despite an 8-0 win over Madureira in the Carioca. Palmeiras president Leila Pereira then stressed the calm she says her staff enjoy in daily work.

Posting on social media, she said that at the club’s Academia de Futebol professionals are allowed to work in peace. She added that the big final starts on Wednesday and signed off with Avanti Palestra.

Many Flamengo supporters viewed the message as a veiled jab at Luiz Eduardo Baptista, the Flamengo president who decided to remove Filipe Luís.

He considered the search for a new coach the best option after negative results in the Supercopa do Brasil and the Recopa, believing the project under Filipe Luís was not heading where he wanted.

He said conversations had indeed taken place but were not the main reason. Using an analogy about boarding the wrong train and getting off at the first station, he underlined his commitment to the institution and said he intervened because he did not believe the course being taken would lead Flamengo where it wants to be.
