Palmeiras reached the Paulistão 2026 final with a 2-1 win over São Paulo in Barueri on Sunday 1, as Mauricio and Flaco López scored. President Leila Pereira has ruled out any agreement to let on-loan midfielder Rômulo face Palmeiras.

According to Nosso Palestra, Rômulo is contracted to Palmeiras and on loan at Novorizontino, and any appearance in the final would trigger a contractual penalty of R$ one million per match. Novorizontino posted the best campaign in the competition and will host the decider.

After the final’s technical council meeting, Pereira said Palmeiras honours what is in the loan deal and that if Novorizontino use the player they will have to pay the clause. She also ruled out the prospect of a separate arrangement.

Rômulo has been one of Novorizontino’s standouts in the Paulistão 2026, recording nine appearances, six goals and three assists.

The first leg is on Wednesday 4 at 20h, Brasília time, at Arena Crefisa Barueri. The decisive game is on Sunday 8 at 20h30.
