Leila Pereira has downplayed complaints about the manner of Palmeiras’ celebrations at the Maracanã after Saturday’s 3-0 win over Flamengo. Speaking at a CBF event, she said it was part of the game, according to Globo.com.
Paulinho scored the third and, in his celebration, the number 10 made a shushing gesture. Flamengo players immediately confronted him.
She added that celebrations of this type also occur at Palmeiras’ own ground and that it is for the match officials to judge what is acceptable. Her main gripe with officiating is inconsistency rather than interference, though she believes the CBF is working to improve it.
The CBF has kept Sunday’s meeting with Chapecoense in place for the 18th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
Palmeiras had sought a postponement because World Cup call-ups could sideline Gustavo Gómez, Sosa, Mauricio, Arias, Piquerez, Emiliano Martínez and Flaco López, with Piquerez currently injured. Pereira said the request was made weeks ago to move the game until after the World Cup and that the club will accept the decision.
