Chelsea seem to be in pole position to land Xavi Simons, though nothing has been finalized yet. Arsenal are also reportedly in the mix, but regardless of where the 22-year-old ends up, PSG stand to benefit from the move.

As transfer expert Fabrizio Romano previously reported, Leipzig signed Simons for €80 million, with €55 million paid up front. The Dutch midfielder is under contract through June 2027, and PSG included a sell-on clause that guarantees them a share of any future transfer.

That approach is already working out for PSG. According to The Athletic’s Adam Crafton, the French club received €17 million (£15 million) from Hugo Ekitiké’s move to Liverpool thanks to a similar clause.

Romano also noted that Chelsea are making real progress in talks over personal terms. Simons is reportedly open to the switch and interested in joining the Premier League side, although discussions are still ongoing.

With Simons on the move this month, Leipzig are looking for a replacement for the former PSG standout. On Tuesday, The Athletic reported that Leipzig have contacted Liverpool over the potential signing of Harvey Elliott.

Despite the interest in Elliott, the report does mention that while talks are not currently at an advanced stage, discussions between the clubs are ongoing.

Elliott started only two Premier League games for Liverpool during the 2024-25 season, both coming after Arne Slot’s team had already clinched the title. He made 28 appearances across all competitions, finishing with five goals and three assists.

It will be interesting to see if Leipzig decide to close this deal with Elliott or give the green light for Simons to leave, even though they have no replacement.
