Leipzig looking to build momentum in Bremen

The international break is behind us, and more Bundesliga action is coming right up just this Saturday, as we head north-west to face Werder Bremen away. It's not only a cauldron of a stadium that we'll have to reckon with this weekend, though - we're coming up against a side picking up serious momentum right now.

RBL will arrive with plenty of wind in our own sails, though, after a thumping victory over Hoffenheim. Add to that a head-to-head record to be proud of and a duo in nothing short of red-hot form, and it starts to look like writing off three points for the Red Bulls might not be such a great idea.

1. History on our side

The Red Bulls ran out 2-0 winners in the reverse fixture against Werder, which brought the record up to nine wins in our last 12 games against one of our favourite opponents in the German top-flight.

Only twice in our 17 Bundesliga clashes with SVW have we left empty-handed, securing all three points on 11 occasions and drawing four times. Bremen haven't lost such a high percentage of their games against any other opposition to date (65%).

2. Opening the floodgates

Our 5-0 trouncing of Hoffenheim was some way to sign off for the international break in style - and it wasn't the first time that the Leipzig attack has simply proved too much for an opponent this season. Eintracht Frankfurt (6-0) and FC Augsburg (6-0) also know exactly what it feels like to face the full force of the Leipzig front line.

Three wins with at least five goals more than our opponent puts us near the top of the pack in that respect - only FC Bayern are ahead, having achieved the feat four times this year.

3. An RBL duo showing up when it matters

Yan Diomande and David Raum are neck-and-neck in the Leipzig assist rankings, both having set up eight goals. Our captain has put up five of his six assists in the league across his eleven Bundesliga appearances since the start of the calendar year. Only Dortmund's Julian Ryerson and Bayern's Michael Olise have recorded more in 2026 (both on eight).

Another star putting his quality beyond any doubt is Christoph Baumgartner, who's bagged three braces in his last seven Bundesliga games - as many as he had racked up across his previous 203 appearances put together.

Only Harry Kane (FC Bayern, four) has put up more braces in Europe's top 5 league's so far in 2026. Our number 14 can also now claim to be the most clinical central midfielder, with 12 goals to his name - not half bad, Baumi!

4. Leipzig watertight, Bremen drawing blanks

At the back, we’ve been rock solid, shipping just 35 goals all season - only FC Bayern (25) and Dortmund (26) have conceded fewer.

BVB are the only side ahead of us in the clean-sheet rankings, with 12 to their name. We’ve racked up 10, nine of those with Péter Gulácsi between the sticks and Maarten Vandevoordt keeping one against Hoffenheim.

Up the other end, though, it’s a different tale for Bremen - they’ve failed to score 11 times, level with St. Pauli and Heidenheim at the top of this unfortunate metric.

5. Werder finding their rhythm going forward

At the Weserstadion, Werder’s attack has often been more gentle breeze than roaring storm - in fact, they’ve been one of the bluntest sides in the league on home soil, managing just 14 goals, level with St. Pauli. Their main man in front of goal is Jens Stage (seven), and he’s back from a yellow-card suspension for this game.

That said, this will hardly be a walk in the park. Despite sitting 14th and struggling at home, Werder are very much on the up under head coach Daniel Thioune, who succeeded Horst Steffen at the start of February.

They’ve won three of their last four Bundesliga matches and are among the form sides in the division right now, with wins over Heidenheim (2-0), away at Union Berlin (4-1), and most recently in Wolfsburg (1-0) giving them some breathing space in the relegation scrap.

And one more thing to note: our boss Ole Werner is facing his former club for the second time – and he’s still waiting for his first win in four competitive meetings with Thioune. It's about time that changed.
