Lennart Karl’s heart-breaking Germany injury and team farewell | OneFootball

Lennart Karl suffered a serious injury during Germany training that left the 18-year-old devastated.

Bild reports the winger was in tears on the pitch, realising immediately the severity, and Antonio Rüdiger walked him to the dressing room.

With drills in small groups, some team-mates did not initially see the incident. Karl was taken to hospital, where he was diagnosed with a torn muscle bundle.

That evening the squad gathered to bid him farewell. Julian Nagelsmann spoke of the bitterness of the setback, noting Karl had virtually secured a World Cup starting line-up spot.

He urged Karl to focus on positives, including his youth and the likelihood of many future World Cups. Karl tried to address the group but barely managed, and the room fell silent several times. He was then taken to the airport to fly back to Munich to begin rehab and will be sidelined for several weeks.
