Ruben Aguilar (32) is one of the unsung heroes of RC Lens’ season. The Frenchman attracts less attention but is nonetheless indispensable for Pierre Sage. However, he must do without him for the coming games.
This season, Aguilar has started 18 of Lens’ 23 Ligue 1 games, underscoring his importance. The only two games in which he has played no part in the league have been due to suspension or injury. He came off the bench against his former club, AS Monaco, on Saturday, however, he lasted just 12 minutes before being forced off with an injury. The defender was visibly upset.
Speaking ahead of Friday’s match against RC Strasbourg Alsace, Sage confirmed that Aguilar will now miss between two and three weeks with a calf injury. He will miss the game against Le Racing, as well as the Coupe de France quarter-final against Olympique Lyonnais. He will not face FC Metz either, and is a doubt for the game against FC Lorient.
